Adding to their extensive collection of unique metal products, artist community Coppertist.Wu has now unveiled their latest piece — a chameleon tape measure made of brass and manganese steel. Seeking to highlight the beauty of nature through their art, the creators have infused their ingenious piece with both whimsy and functionality. The design takes the shape of a detailed chameleon whose measuring tape tongue extends up to two meters in length. Its rolled body makes for a practical, easy-to-carry tool, which can be the perfect quirky addition to your keychain.

‘Animals are an important part of our design process, and our mission has always been to showcase the beauty of wildlife through our unique art. We firmly believe that by raising awareness of these various creatures, society will take notice and treat them with more respect.’ the team at Coppertist.Wu shares. 

Since the chameleon is one of the most unique creatures in the animal kingdom, the artists decided to turn it into an intricate tape measure. Made from brass and manganese steel, the cleverly designed creature disguises its extraordinarily long tongue as a skinny measuring tape, which scales upward of two meters (six feet) when fully extended.

‘We spent two years completing the difficult and complex design and went through countless revisions. It was laborious work, we almost gave up a few times, but we pushed through and brought you this finished product.’ Coppertist.Wu mentions. 

The huge, bulgy eyes, detailed scale texture, the ridges in the back, and the proportion of the overall design makes this piece a perfect fit for stationery enthusiasts over the world. The body of the chameleon measures a tiny 1.9 inches, making it perfect to hang onto your keychain for daily use. Meanwhile, the brass and manganese steel give a nice weight and a solid overall feel to the design.
